The South County Middle School Solutions Group is a group of South County residents from Barrington, Crosspointe, Laurel Hill, Lorton Station, Mason Neck, Newington Forest, South Run Oaks, and other South County communities.
Our goals are to:
1. Alleviate the overcrowding of the South County Secondary School by bringing the appropriate parties together to forge a partnership to build a South County Middle School by 2012 through innovative means benefiting the STUDENTS, local residents, the county, and the business community.
2. Continue to educate the community about the middle school, which is not currently funded or even on the radar screen to be built until 2017.
3. Complete the South County Pyramid and keep South County children in South County.

Why does a South County Middle School make sense?
1. Property Secured: Property for the South County Middle School is already allocated on 41 acres of land located on the old Lorton prison property.
2. Creative Funding Options Available: Options exist to possibly utilize other Lorton properties through a public/private partnership to help defray the cost of the middle school.
3. Support for a “Community School” Model: The support and appropriate environment/opportunity exist to pursue the building of the South County Middle School by utilizing the “community school” concept.
4. Significant Residential and Commercial Growth to Area: Further residential, as well as commercial development is being planned along the Rte. 1 corridor. BRAC forecasts an additional 3,200 school aged children coming to our area.
5. The Numbers Speak for Themselves: Projections indicate that by 2012, there will be 1,046 middle school students and 2,247 high school students.The is a group of South County residents from Barrington, Crosspointe, Laurel Hill, Lorton Station, Mason Neck, Newington Forest, South Run Oaks, and other South County communities.
